Gotta Love the Geneablogger Community

Sorry guys, but I’m sticking with the RootsTech theme here again (I’m still not quite done … trust me there was a LOT packed into just a few days, so it takes a while to write about it). Anyway one thing that really struck me was the welcoming-ness (if that’s not a word, I’m making it one for here) that I felt from other geneabloggers at RootsTech.

In creating the ‘Geneabloggers‘ website Thomas MacEntee has not just created a place to find other genealogy blogs, together with tips on how to start your own as well as continuing blogging prompts, but he really has created the geneablogger community. It is one that I am proud to be a part of. And one that makes you feel very welcome.

Conference Bling from RootsTech 2013

If anyone wants to know why my suitcase was overweight on my return flight from RootsTech (and yes it was!!!), it may have had something to do with all the bling and other bits I collected while over in the US.

Apart from the enormity of the whole conference, and seeing the completely different demographic of it all (so techy-minded, and so much younger than conference I’ve been to in Oz), something else that I learnt and experienced was the ‘bling’ that went with it.

Admittedly not everyone was into it, but I was there for the experience and take it all in, so I embraced it, and here’s  my RootsTech bling.

Genealogy Royalty and the Autograph Book

I think there is several things I’m going to be remembered for by those at RootsTech. I was the short Aussie who always wore a hat (well it was cold), and I went everywhere with my Autograph book, yep, I was there to meet those in the genealogy scene … or as I call them “genealogy royalty”. By that I mean meeting those people who’ve written books you’ve read, written articles in the genie mags, you read their blog, or you converse with them on social media scene (Facebook, Twitter or Google +) … hence “genealogy royalty”.

So before heading off to Salt Lake City I decided that rather than just take pics of everyone I could, I wanted a bit more of a memento, so  I got an autograph book. Yes it seems old-fashioned, but hey, there’s nothing wrong with that, and it was a very useful in making me meet people. And as a bonus I now have a wonderful record of those that I met and my time in Salt Lake City because of it. 😉

Next Stop Hollywood??

Hollywood, yeah right … though I did fly over it on my way from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, Utah and back, so does that count? But no, I didn’t see the big HOLLYWOOD sign, so I guess not eh? Anyway during my visit to RootsTech in March 2013, I was given the opportunity to make my acting debut, which is now available for all to see on the big screen. Now by acting debut, I mean I was interviewed, and by big screen I mean you can check it out on YouTube. 😉

I was actually interviewed three times at RootsTech. Twice by my good friend and fellow Aussie geneablogger Jill Ball (aka Geniaus to the social media world), and once by the boys at The Vault. Jill is super efficient, and has her video’s online already.
