‘Tis the Season for Christmas Cards

In going through old family ephemera I found this beautiful old Christmas card … and as it’s almost Christmas I’d share it now.

There’s no santa, no reindeer, no snowman, no tree or even ornaments on this card. It is simple and yet very elegant. And I know I’m right in saying “they sure don’t make ’em like they used to”.

This Christmas card (postcard) was sent to my great great grandma Phebe Randell (nee Robbins), at ‘Salem Glen’, Gumeracha

Getting a Bit Christmassy

From time to time I do blog about something other than genealogy or history, and this is one of those times. And this is about Christmas. Which with it being only a week away is hardly surprising.

Anyway I’ve been getting into the Christmas mood, and as part of that I do love Christmas carols. Though trust me, I’m not one to put them on about 6 weeks before Christmas. About 1-2 weeks before is enough.  Fortunately I don’t work in a shopping centre where they do that, as seriously I would be “so over” carols that you just don’t want to hear them anymore.

Anyway I just wanted to share my new favourite Christmas carol with you.

The World of Selfies

I think you’d all agree with me that everyone, ok maybe not e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e, but most certainly a high percentage of everyone’s Facebook friends has taken to taking selfies of themselves. Am I right? It seems to be the latest craze. And it is certainly the latest ‘in’ word as it made the Oxford Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2013.

Anyway most of us would think that this craze started a few years ago when digital cameras and mobile phones with cameras made it easier to take photographs of ourselves. Wrong!

In fact selfies seems to be a whole lot older that that … a LOT older.

My Response to “It’s All In the Numbers” Geneameme

It’s now over a week since I sent out the “It’s All in the Numbers” geneameme, so I thought I’d better get my butt into gear and actually post my response to it. Given the fact that I’ve had time to think about this prior to even posting it, you’d think that I’d have had all my answers by now. But in reality I keep thinking of more, not to mention changing some that I’d already had noted.

But I can see that this will go on forever if I don’t get it posted, so here goes …
