My Response to “It’s All In the Numbers” Geneameme
It’s now over a week since I sent out the “It’s All in the Numbers” geneameme, so I thought I’d better get my butt into gear and actually post my response to it. Given the fact that I’ve had time to think about this prior to even posting it, you’d think that I’d have had all my answers by now. But in reality I keep thinking of more, not to mention changing some that I’d already had noted.
But I can see that this will go on forever if I don’t get it posted, so here goes …
Some numbers have various relevant meanings to my family history, so I’ve put each of those in.
NUMBER 2
– this is for the number of geneacruises I’ve been on (so far). I went on Unlock the Past’s 1st cruise back in February 2011 as well as their 3rd cruise back in March 2013.
– two is also for the number of times my great grandpa Otto Winter jumped ship. Once in England, and again in Australia.
– two is also for the number of generations of illegitimacies found so far in my direct line. My 5x great grandma Eliza Phillips had daughter Charlotte Phillips when she was 24, and then that Charlotte Phillips had George Phillips (my 3x great grandpa) when she was 23. Both later married and had other children.
– another thing that two is for, is the number of times my grandpa (Ron Phillips) won the Magarey Medal. To win this is the highest achievement in South Australian football.

NUMBER 3
– three is for the number of blogs that I have.
– three is also for the number of years that I have been getting Inside History Magazine (right since Issue 1 in Nov-Dec 2010), and currently up to issue 19.

NUMBER 4
– four is for the number of cars that I’ve had (I started with a Colt, then bought a Suzuki Swift, then changed to a Nissan Pulsar, and now have my Mini).
NUMBER 5
– five is for the number of houses I’ve lived in.
– five is also for the number of days after after Eliza’s Phillips’s sister Charlotte died, when she had a baby girl, and named her Charlotte (Eliza is my 4x great grandma).
NUMBER 6
– six is for the number of years I spent living next to a cemetery
this is a pic of me on my brother’s go-kart out the front out our house, which was next to the cemetery, I would have been 3 or 4. Note, I later found out I had many reli’s from waaaay back buried in that cemetery. It’s nice to know they were so close.
NUMBER 7
– seven is for the number of ‘missing years’ I still have for my seaman, Otto Winter
NUMBER 8
– eight was the phone number for my great grandparents house at Kenton Park, Gumeracha – at least back in the 1930s

– number 10 is for the number of years since I started doing my own research
NUMBER 13
– thirteen is for the number of children George Phillips (1845-1895) and Mary Ann Kemp (1846-1929), my 3x great grandparents had.

NUMBER 19
– the number of convicts I have found so far in my (meaning mine and Mr Lonetester)’s tree so far. I wrote about most of them in an earlier post.
NUMBER 76
– this is the age when my great great grandpa (William Beavis Randell) was when married his second wife Phebe Robbins (she was 38).
So that’s the numbers that I’ve thought of so far, and I guarantee I’ll think of more that I should have included later, but this needed to get posted. Anyway I look forward to reading what numbers mean what to others in the ”It’s All in the Numbers” geneameme.

living next to the cemetery you were destined to become a genealogist! I still haven’t come up with my numbers 🙁
Oh I like that comment of being ‘destined’to be a genealogist. i hadn’t thought of it that way. But I did love living there. And don’t feel any hurry to do it Pauleen. It is a busy time of year, and family is the focus for sure. So just whenever you get to it.
