Illuminating Blogger Award

What can I say, I am honoured to have been nominated for the Illuminating Blogger Award, and the fact that the nomination came from the person that I consider to be Australia’s No. 1 Geneablogger, Jill of the Geniaus blog fame just adds to the honour.

I was one of six nominations that she gave, and in her nomination Jill says: LoneTester HQ – Alona, is a young, enthusiastic blogger from South Australia who brought a youthful freshness to blogging. She deserves this nomination the effort she has put into setting up and curating the Family History through the Alphabet Challenge.

I love blogging, and it started as I was given the task of blogging for work (Genealogy & History News), but as I continued I felt I needed my own blog to share my own experiences and opinions, which is not something you can always do through a work blog – so hence lonetester HQ was created.

I wasn’t sure if anyone was even going to read my posts, but then figured I was doing it for me, not others. And now to be recognised for doing what I love by a fellow genealogist, someone that not only have more genealogy experience than me, but also WAAAYYYYY more blogging experience has simply blown me away.

But enough about me …

As a condition of accepting this award I am nominating six blogs. I have chosen ones that I believe haven’t already been nominated, so as to share the award around. So here’s my choice of nominations:

Clue Wagon
Kerry is a genealogist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and she has the most unique (and coolest) blogging style that I’ve seen, and I look forward to every new post from her. She was the person that inspired me to get my own genealogy business cards.

Dance Skeletons
Australian geneablogger, Fi who I recently had the pleasure of meeting, has such a wonderful casual (and funny) way of writing her blog, every post always puts a smile on my face, and is a joy to read.

From Helen V Smith’s Keyboard
Well known Australian genealogy presenter, Helen Smith uses her blog to give readers a mix of genealogy news and family stories. I find all are illuminating in their content.

Genealogy in New South Wales
Professional genealogy researcher, Carole Riley’s Genealogy NSW blog is the place to learn about records particularly relating to New South Wales. Her knowledge of records and genealogy shows through every one of her posts.

Queensland Genealogy
Judy has a number of different blogs, but I’ve chosen nominate her Queensland Genealogy because since she took up the Family History Through the Alphabet Challenge she has been highlighting various Queensland records – and every one of hem has taught me something new.

Strong Foundations
Sharon started blogging at the beginning of the Family History Through the Alphabet Challenge a few weeks ago, and has truly embraced her ‘inner geneablogger’, sharing many stories about her ancestors. Each post is well written and is illustrated with photos, maps or documents.

Now for the one random fact about me: I grew up living next to a cemetery (which freaked out most of my friends), but I took it on as my job a quest to pick flowers from my mum’s garden and place on the graves. I only later that I found out I was related to half of them buried there 😛

   Sharon, my pleasure, and well done yourself. In just a few months you’ve become a geneablogger – I’m proud of you. I know what you mean by “feel like such a newbie”, so do I. But remember to write for yourself, it sounds more natural then. And if others find it interesting that’s a bonus.
