Trove has done it again!! Yes, truly. It has managed to come up with the most awesomest of articles. And I know you’ll believe me when I say that when I saw this one, I said “that’s a Trove Tuesday” post for sure!

So what’s all my excitement about? Well, if you have family who arrived in South Australia from the 1820s through until the 1860s, be sure to check the “Pioneers of South Australia” articles on Trove. This series of articles lists details of early immigrants to South Australia. Apart from the hundreds of names each list contains, you’ll also find their date of arrival, often the name of the ship, and either the date they died, or their age at death. Great stuff eh?

Friday was another sea day. We’d left Melbourne the previous evening, and headed to Adelaide.

Sea days tend to be packed seminar days, and this one was no exception, with 25 talks scheduled throughout the whole day, many going simultaneously. The tough thing I found was making the decision on this talks to attend, but it was nice to have a choice of so many topics.

Going back over my notes, I see I went to five talks for the day, covering a range of topics.

Catalogues. Where would we be without them? How would you go buying something from your local store if they didn’t advertise what they had? Or how would you know if your local library had a book you were after? You wouldn’t. It would be a hassle to have to go to search through everything yourself. And in the busyness of life these days, we need more hours not less.

Putting it simply we rely on catalogues (online or printed ones) to know what is available, and where. In the cases above, the store or the library. But in reality it applies to anything.

I know the cruise over already. But so much happened that I want to do each day justice. So bear with me while I try and remember, and record the happenings of each day.

Day 3 of the cruise, and it was up early for myself and the rest of the Unlock the Past team, as we docked at Melbourne at 8.00am. So the plan was to get off quickly, and get a taxi (or two) and head on over to the Celtic Club in Melbourne where our seminar for the day was being held, and started at 10.00am.

But as we all know, reality has its own ideas of what’s to happen, and it managed to throw all of our plans out the window.
