Happy Belated 2nd Blogiversary to Me

Happy Belated 2nd Blogiversary to Me

Can you believe I forgot my own blogiversary? Actually it’s not quite as bad as it sounds. I was aware that it was coming up in early October, I just forgot to check the date. Back it was two years and two days ago, that I sat down and wrote my very first post for my little Lonetester HQ blog.

When I began this post, I noted that this will be post number 118 which I think is a fair effort, and it goes to show that I’m not a daily writer, but nor am I one without ideas, as I do come up with things to write about on a semi-regular basis. Actually the ideas part isn’t the problem, time and reworking ideas from my head to make them into something understandable tends to be the issue as to why I don’t blog more.  But that’s ok, I blog when I can.

And now two years on, I’m still loving it, and I’ve found a number of discoveries (about me, about history, and about family) all through blogging.

Having a little look through the blog posts I’ve done over the past couple of years I can honestly say that I don’t have a standard ‘type’ that I post, as I’ve blogged about all sorts. Of course there are stories about my family, as well as some local history articles. I participated in the Family History Through the Alphabet blog challenge, and actually completed it. I have done some Trove Tuesday posts, as well as some geneamemes.  A number of posts I’ve done are reference lists, and it’s been a place for me to share my experiences when I’ve been to genie events such as conferences or geneacruises, not to mention the family history related projects I started, and there’s even a book review or two. So really whatever takes my fancy at the time. 😉

Something I was introduced to in the past year was Google Analytics, which is a great add-on to your blog as it lets me see the number of people who look at my blog posts, as well as a heap of other stats. As I’ve only started using that this year I don’t have proper stats that go right back to the beginning as to what my most popular posts have been … but based on the results from the past year, my top 5 most popular posts are:

1. 33 Free Websites for South Australian Genealogy
2. Favourite Family Tree Quotes
3. Australian Birth, Death and Marriage Records
4. 21 Anzac Day Facts
5. Discover Local History Using Facebook
and since it was close behind, and I love this post I’m including No.6 too
6. Gotta Love the Geneablogger Community

Also in those two years, somehow I was fortunate enough to pick up a few awards for my blog, including making it into the Inside History Magazine 2012 and 2013 Top 50 Blogs You Should Read lists, … all from me wanting to have a little blog to say my own things. 😉

Anyway I know I’m repeating myself here, but it doesn’t hurt to say it again. THANK YOU to the geneablogger community, it’s wonderful to be a part of such great bunch of people. THANK YOU to my readers for taking the time to read what I write. And to my subscribers, which I must say that I get warm fuzzies when I look at, because you guys like my posts enough to want to not miss any, so THANK YOU.

I have no idea what the coming year will bring, genealogy-wise, or even blog-wise. We’ll all find that out together.

Congratulations and thanks for all your genea work and especially your “Family History Through the Alphabet” challenge, Alona.
I’d only be blogging for a few months when taking up the challenge and sometimes thought I’d never make it through, but your encouraging comments and those of others made all the difference. It was great fun.
Here’s to another year of success, fun and satisfaction for you in all of your activities…

Thanks for taking part in the Alphabet Challenge Catherine. It would have rather lonely if it was just me doing it. And well done on your blogging, and for all the lovely words you’ve written as comments on my posts, Thankyou.
