After spending a very LONG day flying on Tuesday, I arrived in Salt Lake City on Tuesday afternoon, and made it out to dinner with a bunch of Aussies, and others from the Commonwealth (Scotland, England & New Zealanders) and had a lovely time. You can find more details of this ( together with pictures) on the Geniaus blog.
Wednesday day was my first full day in Salt Lake City, and it was great to have a day off prior to the beginning of RootsTech. So my day was taken up by helping with the set up of the Unlock the Past stand, then I wandered the city centre.
First I found their Mall – very snazzy one too.
Then it was over to Temple Square. While I’m not into the whole mormon religion thing, the layout, architecture and just general ambiance of the whole area is astonishing.
And how can you come to Salt Lake City without going to the Family History Library? So I make my way there, and had fun just browsing their shelves. So no, no research yet – was just finding my way around.
I also made my way to the Salt Palace which is where RootsTech is being held, as registrations opened in the afternoon, and that just saves me doing it early morning on Thursday. One less thing to do …
the Salt Palace, Salt Lake City – where RootsTech in being held. And that round thing at the front is a huge glass entrance, not an lift.
goodies that you got in the RootsTech bag and registration kit
(ok, I have added bits on to my nametag as it didn’t come like that!)
It’s great to see what the city looks like from your perspective Alona. Have fun and I’m sure you’ll learn lots of stuff.
I’ve only had an overnight stop in Salt Lake City (many years ago), so I was interested to see your photos. Have fun!
Good that you’re having a good time Alona.
