Remembering Gizmo (2000-2012)

While I have generally used this blog to talk about my family history and genealogy, today I’d like to take a moment to remember Gizmo. He was one of my cats, but he was not just ‘a cat’, he was a member of my family. Giz was just a few months old when he joined us, and has been there everyday since for the past 12 years.

Yesterday started with trip to the vet for Giz, and it ended with Mr Lonetester and I having to make the decision that all pet owner’s dread. While I know we made the right call, sadly it did result in Gizmo, also known as the world’s friendliest cat no longer being with us.

We are a fur-family and do have other cats in our household, but as all cat lovers will know, every cat has it’s very own personality, so the fact that Giz isn’t there, isn’t simply replaced by those that are.

Here’s a few pics of him I’d like to share and remember him by …

this was the last photo I took of Gizmo just last week (12 Sep 2012).
He and Cookie both wanted on my lap, and there really wasn’t room for both, but they made do, grumpily

My sympathy Alona. We’re cat people too and know just how devastating it is when you have to put them ahead of your desire to hang on to them. you’ve made then right decision, it will just take time to come to terms with Gizmo’s absence. he looked like a gorgeous boy.

A really lovely tribute to Gizmo Alona. Sorry for your loss. He looks just like a much loved cat my son had. They have such personalities and are real family members.

I remember that first day he showed up in our back yard. I’d rung you with him in my lap being a happy kitty, and you wondered what I’d done to Mickey to make her purr so loudly that you could hear her over the phone.

I still remember that phonecall very well 🙂
