Genealogy Royalty and the Autograph Book

I think there is several things I’m going to be remembered for by those at RootsTech. I was the short Aussie who always wore a hat (well it was cold), and I went everywhere with my Autograph book, yep, I was there to meet those in the genealogy scene … or as I call them “genealogy royalty”. By that I mean meeting those people who’ve written books you’ve read, written articles in the genie mags, you read their blog, or you converse with them on social media scene (Facebook, Twitter or Google +) … hence “genealogy royalty”.

So before heading off to Salt Lake City I decided that rather than just take pics of everyone I could, I wanted a bit more of a memento, so  I got an autograph book. Yes it seems old-fashioned, but hey, there’s nothing wrong with that, and it was a very useful in making me meet people. And as a bonus I now have a wonderful record of those that I met and my time in Salt Lake City because of it. 😉

Next Stop Hollywood??

Hollywood, yeah right … though I did fly over it on my way from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, Utah and back, so does that count? But no, I didn’t see the big HOLLYWOOD sign, so I guess not eh? Anyway during my visit to RootsTech in March 2013, I was given the opportunity to make my acting debut, which is now available for all to see on the big screen. Now by acting debut, I mean I was interviewed, and by big screen I mean you can check it out on YouTube. 😉

I was actually interviewed three times at RootsTech. Twice by my good friend and fellow Aussie geneablogger Jill Ball (aka Geniaus to the social media world), and once by the boys at The Vault. Jill is super efficient, and has her video’s online already.

A Day in Salt Lake City

After spending a very LONG day flying on Tuesday, I arrived in Salt Lake City on Tuesday afternoon, and made it out to dinner with a bunch of Aussies, and others from the Commonwealth (Scotland, England & New Zealanders) and had a lovely time. You can find more details of this ( together with pictures) on the Geniaus blog.

Wednesday day was my first full day in Salt Lake City, and it was great to have a day off prior to the beginning of RootsTech. So my day was taken up by helping with the set up of the Unlock the Past stand, then I wandered the city centre.

First I found their Mall – very snazzy one too.

RootsTech: Only a Few Days & 14,000kms Away

RootsTech 2013 is only a days away now (oh, and a VERY long plane flight away as well), and I am getting very excited. I mean c’mon, it’s ROOTSTECH, so who wouldn’t be excited? It’s HUGE! So there’s no question that RootsTech IS the world’s biggest combined genealogy and technology conference. And with reports that over 5000 people have registered it would be the second biggest genie conference with the world, with only Who Do You Think You Are? Live in London being bigger. So simply being a part of a conference this HUGE will be an eyeopener for me, as we simply don’t get numbers like that here in Australia. As for the conference itself, I have decided that after immersing myself in talks for 9 days on the recent Unlock the Past History & Genealogy Cruise, and with much of it (surprisingly) still in
